To address recruitment and retention of diverse students in medicine, new and cultural frameworks need to be applied to improve the academic outcomes and experiences of diverse students in medical school. This literature review critically examines the higher education and medical education literature of Latinx student success in the field of medicine, critically examining perspectives and theoretical frameworks of Latinx student success in medicine. Additionally, this paper introduces the multidimensional conceptual framework of servingness (Garcia, Núñez & Sansone, 2019) in a medical school context to understand the structural barriers in medical schools that hinder and promote Servingness for Latinx and underrepresented medical students. Discussion includes how the ‘Servingness Framework’ can be applied in medical schools for evaluation, curriculum development and admissions.
