Abstract

This liberatory learning approach is based on 5 years of community-based participatory research (CBPR) where local and external research collaborators co-designed a critically engaged and liberatory approach for empowerment and digital inclusion in the historically excluded and periphery Baixada Fluminense region of Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The CBPR approach identified culturally sustaining and transformative practices focused on empowering volunteers for digital transformation within a community-based organization in the Villa Norma Complex favela. The findings show how a liberatory course can create brave spaces for dialogue and healing to cultivate communities of resistance. The implication of this research presents an emerging liberatory framework for digital transformation with future research focused on quilombo communities.
