Principal race and the racialized contexts of schools: A systematic review

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Westin Bonaventure, Floor: Lobby Level, Los Feliz

Abstract

This systematic review examines the ways in which the racialized identities of principals are associated with the racialized contexts of schools. Specifically we examine literature that studies principal race in relation to the work and experiences of teachers and the outcomes and experiences of students. We use Ray’s (2019) Theory of Racialized Organizations as a framework to understand the K-12 schools as a racialized context. We discuss current progress using the PRISMA guidelines (Page et al., 2021) and discuss potential findings based on identified prior research.
