Toward an Ecosystemic Understanding of Digital Literacy

Thu, April 9, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 515A

Abstract

In this poster, the authors propose an ecosystemic meta-framework for digital literacy developed through a decade of research and grounded in 50 years of literacy studies and 21st-century competency frameworks. The meta-framework redefines digital literacy as a dynamic, multidimensional, and transdisciplinary concept that goes beyond technical skills to support lifelong learning, social participation, and sustainable development. The framework promotes inclusion, equity, and social innovation, offering guiding principles for integrating and evolving digital literacies in a rapidly changing world. It provides a theoretical and practical foundation to help policymakers and educators design adaptive, future-oriented strategies for meaningful engagement in digital societies.
