Abstract

This study examines a collaborative workbook project implemented in large-enrollment Principles of Economics courses, involving 300-500 students per semester. Rooted in Constructivist pedagogy, the initiative aimed to enhance student engagement, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills through co-creation of learning materials. Students synthesized course content and added original elements collaboratively, utilizing digital tools such as Canva, Perusall, and Peerceptiv. Data analyzed through surveys and network analysis indicated increased student engagement, belonging, and skill development, despite logistical challenges. These results demonstrate the potential for effectively scaling active learning methodologies, aligning with AERA 2026’s theme by fostering innovative, student-centered educational futures.
