Abstract

This qualitative research study across several community colleges and four-year institutions focused on the faculty voices to explore their level of awareness of Latino/x collegiate men’s help-seeking behaviors. Relying on Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior, we asked faculty focus group members about how the prior life experiences of these students may have influenced their intentions to seek help with their academic success. We found that some faculty members knew that there were past emotional traumas due to COVID-19 that inhibited these students from asking for help. More critically, these faculty members understood that many of these students had difficulties balancing their academic, work, and family responsibilities. We offer recommendations to improve how faculty members teach, mentor, and support these students.
