Affective Capacities of ASMRtistry for Qualitative Inquiry

Abstract

This presentation brings together affect theories with walking and video methodologies to produce a film titled Becoming-ASMR. The content in the film draws from field research with K-8 children utilizing four wearable cameras in outdoor learning environments during the closing of physical school buildings due to the pandemic. Filmmaking with content from the data and expression informed by ASMRtistry is an approach to assembling data produced through the research process. Because ASMR is experiential– varying from individuals, including not being present at all– it is a way embody non-representational approaches focused on sense-making and offering new perspectives for qualitative inquiry.
