Abstract

Despite the large number of graduates and the utilitarian nature of the master’s degree, these programs are frequently neglected in terms of research about graduate education.
This study addressed this gap by focusing on master’s degree programs in STEM disciplines. Using a systematic literature review, the study sought to understand curriculum innovation in STEM master’s degree programs from 2015-2025. The past decade has seen rapid developments not just in terms of the knowledge economy and innovation, but also for STEM education and ways in which STEM disciplines are supported inside and outside of the university. The exploratory approach used in this study allowed for a detailed analysis of exactly what curriculum innovation looks like at the master’s degree level.
