Abstract

This conceptual study reviews educational research on racial microaffirmations—subtle, everyday acts that affirm the dignity and humanity of People of Color. Grounded in Critical Race Theory, the study traces how racial microaffirmations function as acts of care, resistance, and healing within educational settings. Key themes include resistance to racial trauma, healing-centered practices, and the structural and interpersonal dimensions of affirmation. The review also explores emerging directions, including ethnic studies and communal practices like sharing food as microaffirmative acts. This work contributes a critical framework for equity, well-being, and transformation in education through racially affirming and justice-centered practices.
