Abstract

This study investigates the psychometric properties of the Arabic-translated Self-Report Altruism Scale (SRAS) using Rasch measurement in a sample of 592 Iraqi university students. Applying the Partial Credit Model, the analysis evaluated dimensionality, local dependence, item and scale fit, response threshold functioning, and gender-based differential item functioning (DIF). Findings supported essential unidimensionality and local independence. Four mis fitting items were removed, resulting in a 16-item version with improved fit. Some items displayed disordered thresholds, and seven items exhibited significant DIF by gender. The refined SRAS demonstrates strong construct validity and measurement precision for assessing altruistic behavior in Arabic-speaking contexts. This research contributes to cross-cultural instrument validation and offers methodological insights for developing fair, reliable educational measures.
