Abstract

The current study explored the role of work benefits on turnover rates among center-based programs that participated in the Early Head Start- Child Care Partnerships. Center-based providers (n =276) completed a survey and self-reported on work benefits offered before and after the partnership and staff left. Our analysis suggest that participants were more likely to provide professional development support to their staff after the partnership started. Further, center-based programs that provided retirement benefits was significantly associated with an increase in turnover rates, while higher compensation was associated with lower turnover rates. No other work benefits were associated with turnover rates. Implications for policy and practice are discussed.
