This paper explores how four practicing social studies teachers theorize aesthetic texts, as well as the relationship between aesthetic texts and social studies curriculum and teaching. Building from an empirical qualitative research study, we draw from philosophers Jacques Rancière and Gert Biesta to interpret our findings. Our paper aims to offer the field of social studies education with alternative perspectives on aesthetics broadly speaking, as well as the utility of aesthetic texts in the everyday practice of social studies teaching.
