This paper addresses an empirical gap in higher education literature and discourse about undocumented Asian undergraduate students, which remains scant, and a methodological gap in deficit-based research about undocumented students using visual storytelling that humanizes participants’ stories. Findings from this study demonstrate the embodied ethos of refusal undocumented Asian undergraduate students used through the ways they created joy in their daily lives. Broadly, the collection of counterstories from this inquiry provide possibilities for undocumented folks to reclaim their power and agency through various modes of storytelling.
