College athletics is continuously evolving to acknowledge the dynamics of a revenue generating industry and the antique rhetoric of amateurism amongst student athletes. The disparities between “Power 4” and “Mid-Major” schools has widened as athletic departments struggle between remaining competitive or being financially sustainable. The NCAA’s new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) Policy allows for college athletes to earn personal income from endorsements, media, and other commercial activities. However, the NIL Policy may have added to the growing disparities between Power 4 and Mid-Major athletic programs. Using financial metrics provided annually by college athletic departments, we will explore the disparities between Power 4 and Mid-Major Schools and examine the impact the NIL Policy has created.
