Abstract

Students need to feel safe and heard on university campuses. The theoretical framework of Nepantla (Anzaldua, 1987) translates to an in-between space where people from the borderlands find themselves. Data for this study comes from a survey which consisted of 14 multiple choice questions and 8 open ended questions. Questions aimed at learning about the participants' personal experiences at an HSI. Findings include: (1) student’s academic success is connected to a greater sense of belonging, (2) the need to implement the use of bilingualism across campus to enhance Latine/x student’s identity, and (3) the importance in creating greater access and understanding to institutional resources. Latine/x students have diverse interests and needs and aiming towards servingness is an ongoing endeavor.
