Place and Time in Black Studies

Sun, April 12, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 303A

Abstract

The second presentation will explore how Black Studies offers a method for understanding the university and its attending agents as central to the edification of violence from the sustaining and benefiting from the military-industrial complex engaging counterinsurgency against student movements for justice. Moreover, the second presentation illustrates the second act of the narrative, providing insight into Victoria’s emergent findings on Prof. Kiele’s disappearance. Here, Victoria reflects on her encounter with Parable series characters Rev. Dr. Christopher Olamina and Lauren Olamina at a seminary conference near Altadena, CA before the Eaton fires of 2025. Their exchange deepens Victoria’s inquiry as she (and perhaps Lauren) come to see that Christopher, too, was exploring the necessity of an alternative world. Victoria is inspired to explore otherwise spaces where Black women and femmes might inhabit amidst the mounting polycrisis.
