Abstract

This analysis examines the conceptualization of student participation units (ie segments or divisions) within the institutional governance frameworks of Ghanaian Colleges of Education (CoEs). Guided by the interpretivism framework, a qualitative research methodological approach was employed by using a case study design to elicit data from ten purposively sampled participants through interviews. 80 other student participants with 16 from each of the colleges under study were also engaged in a focus group discussion. The system designates the Council as the apex decision-making node. Students input is channeled through a single node, the Student Representative Council (SRC) President, whose operational influence within the primary decision-making body is minimal. Regardless of this students were part of the topmost decision-making body of their institutions.
