Abstract

This study examined predictors of academic advising, academic support, and student support usage among community college athletes. Using data from the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (N = 2,981), we conducted logistic regressions to assess how demographic, academic, psychological, and institution variables predicted service utilization. Findings indicated that advisor-developed academic plans, higher high school GPA, perceived campus support, and sense of belonging consistently increased odds of service use, while male and racially minoritized students were less likely to access services. These findings underscore the importance of intentional advising, supportive campus climates, and targeted outreach to advance equitable access. Recommendations address institutional practices that foster belonging, reduce barriers, and enhance success for community college athletes.
