Abstract

Hossler and Gallagher’s (1987) college choice model has long been used as a foundational framework for understanding how students navigate the decision-making process to pursue higher education. However, this framework has often overlooked the unique experiences
of undocumented students, whose educational trajectories intersects with immigration legal status and higher education exclusion. Today, their invisibilization is more relevant as the Trump’s anti-immigrant political agenda has overtly taken actions to prevent undocumented students from accessing higher education. The significant impact these of policies on undocumented students has rendered their experiences largely invisible in college choice research and access. This study aims to propose a conceptional college choice model for undocumented students in higher education by employing a critical race theory framework.
