Abstract

This paper presents implementation and impact results from a rigorous study of an innovative statistics corequisite remediation course for community college students. The treatment course, Statway Corequisite, includes robust teacher training and lessons with real world contexts and pedagogical routines that promote collaboration and positive student mathematical mindsets. The comparison business-as-usual corequisite course was developed by the partner community college. Using data from eight terms, students in Statway Corequisite (a) had significantly higher course grades (ES = 0.51, p <0.001) and (b) were much less likely to withdraw or earn a D, F, or incomplete grade (DFWI) compared to the standard college course (p <0.001).
