This study examined the relationship between cross-language oral language proficiency and home language input in a sample of 330 Spanish-English dual language learners (DLLs) in PreK. Using multiple imputation and propensity score analysis, results revealed significant within- and cross-language associations between English and Spanish oral language skills. Home language input was positively associated with Spanish oral language outcomes but negatively associated with English skills. These findings underscore the importance of considering DLLs’ full linguistic repertoire and the role of the home language environment in shaping oral language development. Results highlight the need for strength-based academic approaches that support DLLs’ Spanish and English development to inform more equitable early learning environments and assessment practices.
