Abstract

The role that faculty play in career development was highlighted in a recent report that noted 92% of faculty were consulted for career advice in 2024, and 44% are consulted regularly. This underscores the need for support and emphasizes an opportunity to transform career services from a center to an institutional approach. This paper presents a literature review on career academic integration, the faculty-driven initiatives that cultivate career readiness. The findings reveal two key themes: curriculum innovation and course design innovation. Institutions can better prepare all students for the competitive labor market by utilizing career academic integration initiatives. Lastly, the paper shares research-informed implications for institutions regarding mobilizing faculty for this transformative work and impacting students’ social and economic mobility.
