Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, university academic advisors were forced to communicate remotely with students using synchronous communication technologies (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet). This practice introduced remote academic advising (RAA). Since then, RAA has become a “new norm” in academic advising because of its flexibility in accommodating student needs and enriching advisor-student interactions to enhance advising effects. However, as RAA evolves, further exploration is needed to leverage its full power as a new academic advising model. Through synthesized findings of RAA practice based on results from 2020, 2021, and 2024 student surveys, this study sheds light on RAA from student lenses, including its evolution and changes, and draws implications for effective RAA practice to support student learning and success.
