Elementary School Leadership Practices and Dispositions in Strengthening Students’ STEM Interests and Capabilities: A Meta-Synthesis

Abstract

In most countries, K-12 STEM education lays the foundation for future post-secondary STEM studies and careers. Sustaining the field demand by strengthening the lower level of education, especially the elementary level. Using meta-synthesis, this study aimed at identifying school alterable conditions (ACs) in elementary schools and classrooms that positively influence students' STEM interest and success, and leadership practices that enhance these ACs. The study identifies concrete strategies school leaders can use to engage students early and build a solid foundation for their long-term academic and career success in STEM. It further. It further offers principals, whether new or experienced, an opportunity to reflect on and enhance their leadership practices and effectiveness in promoting students’ STEM interests and capacities.
