Examining Pre-service Teacher’s Vision for AI Integration in Instructional Practice

Abstract

As artificial intelligence transforms educational landscapes, understanding how future educators envision AI integration becomes critical for teacher preparation programs. This preliminary study investigates pre-service teachers' perceptions regarding AI integration in their future instructional practices. Using a cross-sectional survey design, this study collected data from pre-service teachers at a research university through a 19-question survey examining current AI use, future perceptions, design ideas, and implementation considerations. Findings showed strong support for AI in administrative and analytical functions with clear boundaries around interpersonal applications, indicating awareness of preserving human agency in social-emotional domains while recognizing AI's orchestration potential.This preliminary research contributes to AI-education literature by focusing on pre-service teachers, a crucial but understudied population whose visions will shape future implementation.
