Abstract

As AI tools diffuse into classrooms, educators must integrate them with established curricula and pedagogies. Guided by an augmented-intelligence framework, this mixed-methods study analyzed discussion posts from 116 K–12 teachers enrolled in a graduate course, examining how they used GenAI to co-design lessons. Quantitative text-mining yielded word-frequency metrics and sentiment scores, which skewed positive overall for GenAI–supported planning. Qualitative analysis identified six themes: Usability & UX, Time Efficiency, Integration Vision, Idea Generation, Customization, and Content Accuracy. Participants regarded GenAI as both a workflow accelerator and an inventive partner, while emphasizing the need for enhanced customization and vigilant content validation. Implications address strategies for seamlessly embedding GenAI into teaching practice and for equitable, future-focused teacher preparation.
