This study explores how older immigrant Latina mothers conceptualize, cultivate, and develop agency through acompañamiento [accompaniment] and collective praxis. Using critical narrative inquiry and guided by Critical Pedagogy and Liberation Theology, the research highlights how cultural and communal traditions—such as Dia de los Muertos, Posadas and charlas—foster courage, resilience and solidarity within the women’s homes and communities. Through these social and religious spaces, mothers navigate systemic oppression, challenge domination, and co-construct liberatory knowledge, transforming their lives and communities.
