Abstract

In this study, we used a Cochrane systematic review method, following a detailed protocol to explore principal preparation policies and programs in the U.S. post-2002. We conducted searches across databases like ERIC, Academic Search Complete, and ProQuest, retrieving 948 documents. After a rigorous screening process, 106 studies met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis focused on four categories: the historical evolution of principal preparation, state policy standards, principal preparation programs, and licensure. Results highlighted the significance of policy standards such as ISLLC and PSEL in shaping leadership preparation, with varying state implementations. A notable gap was found in technology integration within principal programs. The findings underscore the need for ongoing updates and improvements in principal preparation standards.
