Empowering the Future of STEM Education: A Systematic Review of AI Integration Facilitators and Barriers

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This systematic review synthesizes studies on the integration of artificial intelligence in K–12 STEM education, identifying key facilitators and barriers through the lens of the AI-TPACK framework. A total of 38 studies published between 2018 and 2025 were selected using PRISMA guidelines and analyzed through deductive coding. Findings show that while AI supports personalization, feedback, and curriculum alignment, persistent challenges include infrastructure gaps, ethical concerns, and limited pedagogical training. This review provides practical insights for designing teacher education programs and policies that support the effective and responsible use of AI in STEM classrooms.
