Thu, April 9, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Westin Bonaventure, Floor: Lobby Level, Los Cerritos

Abstract

This study introduces systems thinking into undergraduate macroeconomics through pedagogical activities centered on causal diagrams and structural debriefing. Implemented in a classroom setting, the activities help students visualize and analyze economic relationships, enhancing comprehension of textbook models. Using design-based methodology, the authors developed lesson plans accessible to instructors without systems thinking expertise. Results show improved student understanding of complex macroeconomic concepts, contributing to the growing literature on systems thinking in economics education.
