A Consideration of Artistic Expressions of Younger Generations in Educational Setting

Abstract

A fundamental part of people in Hawai‘i is consisted by their traditional language and culture, and the concept of “aloha ʻāina” is one of the core parts of this. The author discussed that the Hawaiian Renaissance has been transmitted from generation to generation and also pointed out that younger generation is one of the significant factors to transmit Hawaiian language, culture, and identity. In this study, the author discusses the Hawaiian Renaissance in relation to aloha ʻāina especially focusing on how the younger generation represents their realization of aloha ʻāina by various artistic expressions in educational setting. The preliminary results indicate that we have the young generation who is certainly aware of keeping Hawaiian traditions and represent them through artistic expression.
