Structured Subversion: Transforming Systems with Measures That Matter to Youth, Families, and Communities

Fri, April 10, 11:45am to 1:15pm PDT (11:45am to 1:15pm PDT), Westin Bonaventure, Floor: Lobby Level, Los Cerritos

Abstract

This paper shares engaged research led by the Measures that Matter (MtM) Collaborative, a collective of community and university-based scholars and leaders who seek to understand how measurement can play a role in change-making towards liberatory, humanizing education both within formal systems and the broader ecosystems within which they exist (Safir & Dugan, 2021; Takahashi et al., 2025). This paper shares emerging findings from a series of participatory design sessions with educators, administrators, and racially minoritized communities to develop and use MtMs to transform relationships, aims, and daily educational practices.
