Abstract

Innovative teaching methods are crucial in STEAM classrooms to enhance student learning and engagement. Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers in underrepresented minority (URM) high schools find Hip-Hop-Inspired Instruction (HHII) to be a transformative educational tool. This study examines CTE teachers' perceptions of HHII and its potential to increase engagement of STEAM content for underrepresented students. Qualitative methodology informed the investigation of the influence of HHII using focus group interviews, teacher surveys, and student feedback. Key themes emerged, illustrating the influence of HHII on student performance and engagement. The findings suggest that HHII has the potential to enhance learning of STEAM and increase student interest, particularly as it relates to underserved students.
