From Servingness to ServingWith: Participatory Action Research to Cultivate Transformative Leadership and Praxis at a dual MSI

Abstract

This 2025 Helios Foundation-funded project examines the experiences of Latine college students at a campus that is a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) and an emerging Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution (NASNTI). Grounded in Participatory Action Research (PAR) to answer two research questions: (1) How do Latine, Native American, and Indigenous students at an HSI and emerging NASNTI in the Southwest experience and envision servingness? (2) How does a student and faculty coalition for change re-envision servingness in teaching, research, and service? This project will conclude its first phase in December 2025 with Latine student co-researchers.
