Through work with the Lenape Center and social studies teachers in New York City, this humanizing research project investigates what curricular knowledge is most important to the Lenape, on their lands, where New York City is now situated. This paper focuses on what knowledge the Lenape feel is most important for all students to know to support Lenape futurity in New York City. Through the continued development of research relationships with Lenape Elders, social studies curriculum was developed and presented to educators with support for their own process of unlearning settler curriculum using Cornel Pewewardy’s Transformational Indigenous Praxis Model (2022) to encourage further unsettling in NYC classrooms.
