Innovating Professional Development: Co-Designing an AI Playground with Teachers, Developers, and District Leaders

Abstract

This study investigates a co-design model for teacher professional development on AI. The goal was to build a partnership among in-service and pre-service teachers, faculty, district leaders, and AI developers to enhance AI literacy. Using thematic analysis, this model was found to be helpful to empower teachers with the knowledge and skills needed for culturally-relevant, ethical, and responsible AI use in schools. Findings are significant to rethinking future PD from a collaborative lens.
