Abstract

This paper explores the long but often overlooked history of workforce development efforts within Jesuit higher education, with a focus on Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles. In a national climate where four-year colleges are increasingly critiqued for being disconnected from workforce realities, LMU’s historical Extension and Industrial Relations programs highlight how mission-driven institutions have historically supported workforce education through community-based, values-driven learning.
