Abstract

Growth mindset functions as a dynamic system, yet its structural complexity remains understudied. Using PISA 2018 data (N = 612,004), we conducted a network analysis to map two distinct networks: (1) a core mindset network with mindset-related constructs (Network 1), and (2) an integrated growth mindset network including achievement (Network 2) to test the stability of Network 1. Findings showed mastery goals were the most central elements in both networks. Work mastery-orientation and resilience were also influential, while perceived effort and fixed mindset were least central. In Network 2, achievement emerged as central; however, it is weakly associated with other constructs. The results support growth mindset as a meaning system. Interventions should prioritize mastery-oriented learning environment to strengthen growth mindset.
