Social-emotional learning provides students with critical skills to manage emotions, build healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions. Despite growing recognition of SEL's importance, middle school teachers struggle with effectively implementing these programs. The purpose of this case study was to explore middle school teachers’ experiences and perceptions regarding salient aspects of the implementation of SEL curricula, their beliefs about SEL program effectiveness, and challenges they encounter with implementation. Thirteen middle school teachers within a district completed semi-structured interviews. The five elements of fidelity—adherence, exposure, quality of delivery, participant responsiveness, and program differentiation—were evident in the challenges and successes described by teachers. While teachers value SEL, they feel underprepared and lack necessary resources and professional development
