This study examines the assimilation process that veterans experience as they transition into civilian work environments. Despite various forms of support aimed at facilitating veterans’ successful entry into the civilian workforce, many continue to face physical and mental challenges, often resulting in underemployment and high turnover rates. The study focuses on “veteran-friendly” practices implemented by organizations to support veterans’ employment and adaptation processes, with the goal of identifying more effective organizational strategies. By applying Schlossberg’s Transition Theory and military transition frameworks, this study seeks to uncover the true meaning of being “veteran-friendly” through in-depth narratives from both veterans and civilian employers who identify their workplaces as supportive of veterans.
