Fri, April 10, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This study examines 288 journal articles written on “peace education” between 2015 and 2025 to identify patterns related to educational level, geographic focus, and thematic emphasis. The initial findings demonstrate a strong emphasis on formal education, while informal learning contexts are almost nonexistent. By utilizing critical peace education and postcolonial theory, the study explores how dominant educational structures shape the discourse by marginalizing alternative approaches rooted in community engagement and informal learning contexts. The study also discusses, based on Gatekeepers theory, how certain disciplinary norms and editorial practices may promote certain forms of scholarship, resulting in the invisibility of others. A more detailed analysis will be conducted by looking at keywords and countries of publication for the final version.
