This presentation shares findings from a critical narrative inquiry study of alumni from a college-preparatory program for first-gen, low-income students, many of whom are also students of Color. Drawing on interviews with alumni spanning nearly four decades, we explore how participants described developing a sense of belonging—and even family—through their engagement with the program. Their stories reveal how relational structures, shared identity, and continued connection shaped their academic and personal trajectories. In a moment when many college access programs face threats, this study offers insight into how intergenerational, identity-centered programming can cultivate lasting community. We argue that alumni narratives expand how we understand success, belonging, and the transformative potential of programs designed for students historically excluded from higher education.
