Understanding the complex interplay between data, institutional initiatives, and collaborations between transfer professionals is needed in order to more holistically support transfer student progress and success. Trust within relationships can serve as a bedrock to support effectiveness, enhance partners’ work, and boost student outcomes. In this study, we used the theory of relational trust, or relationships and social ties, to conduct a qualitative case study that explored the role of trust in transfer agents' work to support transfer student success. Preliminary findings indicated that relational trust shaped participants’ expectations of their role and those of partners in transfer success. In turn, these understandings showed evidence of enhancing and minimizing efforts to maintain cross-functional and -institutional partnerships.
