In responding to the question of how Black Education might simultaneously ‘unforget its past’ and ‘imagine its future', this essay proposes a (re)turn to a Black University to speculate on its potential pedagogical force and the implications this might have for teaching and learning in the present. Privileging a reading of archival material from Negro Digest and insights from Black feminist theory and psychoanalytic feminism through the lens of education, this essay attempts to map a provisional frame through which might (dis)locate a Black University.
