Navigating and Leading Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Implementation in Schools

Wed, April 8, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree D

Abstract

This session explores the role of school leaders in guiding the equitable and ethical integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science (CS) in K–12 education. As tools like ChatGPT, Google Classroom, CoPilot, and other AI tools reshape instruction, leaders must move beyond awareness to action, supporting implementation that promotes critical thinking, inclusivity, and student well-being. We highlight a six-week professional learning series developed by a large urban district and public university partnership, designed to help school leaders understand AI/CS standards, plan site-based integration, and engage with emerging ethical questions. Participants developed action plans centered on access, responsible use, and instructional relevance. This session emphasizes leadership that is future-oriented, equity-driven, and grounded in thoughtful, human-centered use of technology.
