A Cross National Analysis of Public Opinion on the Role of Government in Education

Thu, April 9, 4:15 to 5:45pm PDT (4:15 to 5:45pm PDT), JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, Floor: Gold Level, Gold 1

Abstract

This study explores how sociodemographic characteristics shape the public attitude towards the role of government in providing education while taking variances at the country level into account. The findings suggest that sociodemographic characteristics such as age, sex, and the degree of religiosity are key predictors that determine people’s attitudes towards the government’s role in education. Furthermore, the findings show a more nuanced picture of where people stand in their perception of what sectors should be responsible for providing education, depending on their sociodemographic characteristics, which is beyond the simple comparison between the government and non-government sectors.
