Wed, April 8, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This study examines associations between migration direction, education level, gender, age, and economic activity in Colombia using data from the 2023 Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares (GEIH). Individuals aged 15 and older were categorized into employment, education, job seeking, unpaid domestic work, health-related inactivity, or other activities. Multinomial logistic regression identified clear sociodemographic disparities. Women showed greater likelihood of engaging in unpaid domestic labor; youth predominantly participated in education or job seeking; individuals with lower education were concentrated in informal activities; rural residents had fewer educational and formal employment opportunities. Higher education reduced gender gaps in domestic responsibilities, and urban migration increased educational participation among youth, underscoring education and migration as crucial factors for equitable economic participation.
