Abstract

This study examines publication trends and research themes in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) applications for teacher education from 2023 to 2025. Using bibliometric analysis, we analyzed 522 publications from the Scopus database. Results show explosive growth from 60 publications in January 2023 to 251 by July 2025 (318% increase). Mainland China and the United States are the leading contributors. Three main research clusters were identified through keyword co-occurrence analysis: preservice teacher preparation, higher education integration, and AI literacy development. Timeline analysis reveals preservice teacher preparation as the central hub connecting other research themes. These findings provide evidence-based insights for researchers and policymakers developing GenAI integration strategies in teacher education.
