Sat, April 11, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree D

Abstract

Established with a catalyst grant from the Law Foundation of Ontario in 2018, the African, Caribbean, Black Family Group Conferencing (ACB-FGC) Project is a community-engaged program that provides culturally relevant alternative dispute resolution services to Black families in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who are at risk of, or who are already impacted by, the Toronto child welfare system. This presentation is a formative evaluation of the ACB-FGC service based on 24 program evaluation surveys completed by family members who participated in the initial pilot of ACB-FGC between January 2020 and December 2021. Overall, evaluation findings serve as evidence of the need for Black-focused, culturally relevant, interventions towards advancing the health and educational outcomes of Black children and youth.
