Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore Black women collegians’ (BWC) use of social media to communicate their experiences. This study looks specifically to examine how BWC use social media and African American Vernacular English (AAVE) to articulate their expereinces. Using Sue et al.’s (2007) Taxonomy of Microaggression and Morgan’s (2001) concept of Black Women’s Language in AAVE, this study addresses the following research questions: How do Black undergraduate women who used the hashtag #BlackATMidwestPWI explain their experiences with microaggression? What dialectical tools of AAVE do Black women employ to tell their stories through the #BlackATMidwestPWI hashtag?
